The incident causes him to reflect on his whole mode of living, particularly the part about killing people for money. Ultimately, he vows to abandon his ugly career and replace it with a handsome oak bookcase or a set of French windows. The Canary Murder Case (1929):
This film ruffled a few feathers in its day, but modern bird lovers can relax -- the Canary in question is the group of islands. The complex story concerns the arrival of a new cash crop -- the banana, the rise of Marxist and anarchistic ideologies, and the rivalry of two cities to become the archipelago's capital. Politics turns personal for the mayors of the rival cities, and one pulls a gun to "prove he's not yellow." There's no question whodunnit, but proving it is a whole bag of worms for island investigators whose wings have been clipped by rampant cronyism.
