Voodoo Academy (2000):
When Jamal's family moves from Brooklyn to Haiti he struggles to cope with the different pace of life and with making new friends and adjusting to a new school. But while high school in Haiti may seem a world away from high school in Brooklyn, Jamal (Kareem Jones) discovers that some things are the same as he is forced to choose sides in a gang war. Maya Angelou makes an appearance as Jamal's grandmother.
Voodoo Academy (2000):
Following suspiciously close on the heels of the popularity of Harry Potter, this lighthearted children's film about a school where black magic is taught fails miserably by comparison. Stars Corey Feldman as Mr Juju.
Voodoo Academy (2000):
In this macroeconomic satire, Principal Ronald McReagan, a clown bearing an uncanny resemblance to a former American president, presides over Voodoo Academy, where young puppets study supply-side economics (famously labeled "voodoo economics" by George H. W. Bush during the 1980 Republican primary). For unruly students, fiscal discipline comes in the form of "trickle down" water torture. Fair enough, but why spoof a monetary policy several decades old? And why puppets? The filmmakers, apparently, believed that a supply of their film would create its own demand. But the boxoffice proved otherwise.
