"Sleeping Beauties"
of Forgetfulness
Vladimir Nabokov describes this blank map in Speak, Memory (1966). •
picts a gaping "pot hole" along the circuitous passages of memory. To con•front the forgotten is to boldly venture into uncharted territory. Such an explo•ration promises rewards beyond price but may require elaborate bridge building.
One might reconstruct something exquisite from the splinters along the way.
