Listen for a breathy whinny.
If I close my eyes and listen, sometimes, I can
hear a far-off whinny that seems to drag me
towards it.
-- Mythriss, "More Unicorn Moments" (2006)
When a unicorn whinnies, it lets its breath out in
little bursts. Squeals of light "laughter" are not
uncommon at the beginning of a whinny. A sort
of moaning sound at the end is typical. Rich with
overtones and building in energy to a climax, a
breathy whinny can sound like:
a juicy secret
a quiet orgasm
Accounts of unicorns' breathy whinnies in literature
include:
The unicorn whickered welcome.
-- Peter Beagle's Immortal Unicorn (1995)
The unicorn made a whinny, and pawed again
with his hoof.
-- T. H. White, Once and Future King (1958)
