wilderness." Following is the unicorn's profound, eternal message: Behold, I am free, I am not enveloped within this darkness. Behold, I am the everlasting light, the Eternity that stretches forward for ever, utterly opposite of that darkness which departs backward, backward for ever. Come over to me, to the light, to the light that streams into the glorious eternity. For now the darkness is revoked for ever. Indeed, the voice of the unicorn has the uncanny power to dispel the darkness. In Dragons of Autumn Twilight (2003), Margaret Weis describes it in this way: Even as the deep voice spoke, the darkness parted. A gasp of awe, gentle as a spring wind, swept the company as they stared before them. Silver moonlight shone brightly on a high rock ledge. Standing on the ledge was a unicorn. She regarded them coolly, her intelligent eyes gleaming with infinite wisdom. Like Lawrence, C. S. Lewis described the joyful cry of the unicorn -- bree-hee-hee -- and summed up its eternal message: I have come home at last! This is my real country! I belong here. This is the land I have been looking for all my life, though I never knew it till now. . . . Bree-hee-hee! Come further up, come further in! (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle, 1956).
