"Sad stories listened to ... 29¢ per hour. Sobs 10¢ extra. Tears 15¢ extra. Payment in advance." According to the inflation calculator, one hour of a sob story would now cost $1.60. An added sob would cost 55 cents, and tears 83 cents.
