[The funny thing here is that they're calling the spouse who preceded the spouse who was a biological parent of the grandparent a "step," where normally it would be a spouse who succeeded the biological (great-)(grand-)parent who'd be called the "step." So it's [wait for it] a "step" backward! (But then, since all genealogy involves stepping backward, does it cancel out and become a step forward? (:v>)]
