I began my professional career...in 1951, when I won a radio talent contest--the prize being congratulations from Hermione Baddeley!
[N.B. Hermione Gingold had been mentioned two pages earlier. The two Hermiones are pretty soundly conflated in my mind--so seeing the "same" Hermione mentioned by two different names in short order made me do a double take--and a trip to Wikipedia has reinforced rather than ameliorated the conflation, with one article going so far as to tell me that they often appeared together! But you probably knew all this, and probably can tell them apart. (:v>]

[Frankie Howerd comments to Feldman and Took on the first script they've written for him.]
"'You haven't put in the "oohs" and "aahs."' We had assumed that these were his own style, his own contribution to the script."

[From a Tony Hancock show.]
"How can you tell how old a tortoise is?"
"You count the rings on its back."
"That's a tree."
"Oh. You count its teeth?"
"That's horses."
"Well, you can't be right all the time."

[Conclusion: One can't be right all the time--but, when it comes to Hermiones, one has a 50/50 chance.]
