For former read latter, and for latter read former.  A correction from Mechanics' Magazine and Journal of Science, Arts, and Manufactures, 1853.

Pardon the nearly unreadble scans, but here's an example of a correction that itself needs correction.  The correction statesL "For 'front to the van' read 'rear to the van.'"  Yet the original poem had read, "front from the van," not "front to the van."  And does changing front to rear even make sense?

Sometimes a peanut substitutes for a pageant.  From Public Opinion, 1882.

The "oldest inhabitant," not the "quietest" — a correction from Harper's Bazaar, 1911.  This recalls a scene in Fawlty Towers, in which a dead man is assumed to merely be quiet.
